Fantastic YouTube videos

I think one of the best ways to review one of the best places is to make a video - blog, or "Vlog" of your stay... That's just what this fantastic "YouTuber" has done. I've just watched it all and I think you'll love it as much as I do... It shows how much fun Butlins is whatever the weather; and how much fun you can have at Butlins, and it's at my favourite resort (the best in my opinion, I know CL will disagree)! SKEGNESS! Halloween decorations at Butlins - or the lack of.

I'm rather annoyed that there's not many Halloween decorations at Butlins this year - It's not their fault. Last year parents complained because their children got scared. It's a Halloween themed break! Does that mean that scary music effects can't be used in shows? probably. I'm sorry if I've offended you by this, and you were one of the parents, but you did know it was a Halloween themed break, and there is sufficient videos etc to support this.

I fail to see why Butlins should have to change [the decorations] because people got scared on a Halloween themed holiday - what is the world coming to?!?!?

Skegness Skyline does not mix with heavy rain!

Last week it rained really bad on the monday night and it started coming through the roof

They had to close the Arcade,Chip Shop and everything was getting soaked

Is what we have been told about the Skyline Pavillion in Skegness last week!

We hope it is quickly fixed and sorted out :)

Feedback website

Hello! 

I'm currently travelling home from a Haven Holiday :)

Whilst there, I've seen some good things, these things could be implemented at Butlins, I mean, it's all Bourne Leisure after all!

On the feedback cards in the caravan it says who cleaned the van, and who checked it - Butlins could do this :)

As if that touch of persolisation wasn't enough, it says "you've trusted us with something as big as your family holiday" or along those lines, and it goes on to ask for your feedback. Yes, there's a written space, but there's also a website and QR Code that takes you to the website where you can fill in your feedback - there's no need to drop it off at reception!

EXCLUSIVE: Interview with A2ZIndex boss Steve

We've been featured in the A2ZBed online newspaper many times. This made us want to interview someone about it!

Now, we usually interview stars, tribute acts and famous people, but why not a guy like Steve?!?!

Steve is the boss of A2ZIndex, this incorporates many directories, villages, towns, accommodation and weddings, just to name a few.

A2ZBed (the site we deal with) was set up "To create a user friendly website for the industry. We wanted it to include free listings and affordable advertising, it is part of the www.a2zindex.co.uk selection of location and industry specific sites, which all come under the umbrella of www.haveuseenthat.co.uk"  Steve also told us that there is a small team of them working on A2ZBed and associated sites.

We were pleased to her that Steve loves to read Butlins:TheBlog when he gets the time to!

When asked "have you worked in the hospitality industry previously, or do you currently?" Steve replied with "I've worked in pubs and restaurants in the past."

Overall it sounds like Steve is a very busy man, and we'd like to take the time to thank him for mentioning us in his paper many times, and we hope this will happen again in the future :)

INTERVIEW: We asked Just Jessie (Karen Tomlinson) some star questions!

Karen Tomlinson is a super talented Jessie J tribute act. She's been performing at all 3 Butlins resorts this year, and she's loved it! We asked her a few questions, so we could share all of the inside gossip about her act, and what she does!

How long have you been doing your act?
Karen told us that she started practising her act last August, but she officially started in January this year. She's come on such a long way. In that short time, only 9 months, she's been performing at all three of your favourite Butlins resorts!

What is it like performing at Butlins, and what is life like there?
There's no better way to explain Karen's response than to tell you it;

I love performing at Butlins. Not many places have live bands any more, in fact, the 3 fantastic Butlins resorts are the only venues that use live bands! The technical side of it is so professional, and the audiences are FIERCE!!!

Which resort has given the best crowd?
As you'd imagine, any crowd at Butlins is amazing, but Karen told us that this year, it's been close, but it's definitely between Bognor Regis and Minehead (sorry Skegness).

Where do you see yourself in ten years time?

Hopefully still singing and loving it! I can't imagine ever doing anything else, NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!!

Did you holiday at Butlins as a child, and if not, where did you go?
Karen sadly didn't go on holiday to Butlins as a child. That doesn't mean she didn't have holidays, she went to Feather's Holiday Camp, Whitley Bay (Not far from where I live, Darlington). It's amazing that Karen is performing at Butlins, because that means she went to an amazing holiday camp as a child, and is now performing (wow) at Butlins! We must add that Karen did in fact visit Skegness for the day when she was 4! Loving from a young age...

Let's all go to Butlins!

Butlins Skegness is amazing. 

Sir Billy Butlin had the right idea back in 1936 when he opened up his first resort on a field in Ingoldmells, which you now know today as Butlins Skegness. 

The anticipation of going along Roman Bank from the station, motorway, or wherever you come from never wears out. Things that signify that you're near Butlins for me are; The Lincolnshire Cooperative shop, the caravan parks, and, you guessed it, the Skyline Pavilion! It just all piles in to the excitement bag. If you don't get excited near Roman Bank then you can't be human (but I'm sure animals, and, aliens, are just as excited). 

If you arrive at Skegness by train like me, then you'll probably know how exciting it is getting off the train and seeing all of the buses marked via Butlins, or Butlins. The first thing on my mind is usually LETS GET THERE! The bus driver knows you're excited when you are waiting for him to open the doors, at the bus station which is conveniently situated so close to the station they may as well be hugging. Everyone is slotted into the bus like sardines in a can, luggage is at the front, people at the back, children on the roof. (Note to guardians, only put children on the roof of the bus at the drivers discretion, it's usually the naughty ones). Of course you know I mean on an open - top bus. When you're up there, Skegness certainly is bracing! It's pretty amazing being whizzed around the Vegas of the North, seeing all of the people, amusements, bingo, ice creams - and Seagulls. My goodness. If there was ever an annoying bird competition, the Seagull would win, hands down.

It's funny when you arrive at Butlins, or 10 miles away. If you get some busses, they stop about two minutes away, and not inside the resort, but, honestly, with luggage, it may as well be blooming Timbuktu. 

That area has a certain smell about it. It's nothing common, but it's identifiable to there. In the background you can hear very distinctive sounds. Whirring of the rides, balls banging on the Donky Derby, and "one and four, fourteen" Why they insist on blasting out the bingo on a loudspeaker outside the main entrance, I'll never know. The thing is, it's perfectly audible outside of the resort! I do, however, feel a certain amount for the man who does that. His voice is constantly on show, he's always calling bingo, and, let's be honest, he must be bored!

It's great though, upon arrival I take my luggage to left luggage, get a ticket, and go grab some lunch. It's almost certainly gonna be a Burger King. It's not cheap, it's not healthy, but my goodness, it's nice. I'm not a fan of this royalty, but at Butlins, it just seems to taste better. It's probably the air accumulated around it from the Skyline. Candy Floss (cotton candy for you across the pond), hot dogs, and coffee. Doesn't sound appealing, trust me, it's like heaven. Oh, that, and the background "audio". "Come on... join in, join in... the Little Big Club!".

Next it's off to waste a bit of time. Check in comes so quick though, because time flies when you're having fun! If you're staying in a standard apartment, I feel you're pain. Left luggage is at THE OTHER END of the resort to check - in. I hear you say, "Get a luggage trolley!". No. Can you seriously see one of those things and not instantly get on it? I just scoot along on them... Yep, it's dangerous, and yep, I've ran over 45, make that 50 people by doing this, but still, it's fun. When you've traipsed through the maze of Ocean Point, and finally got to where you're staying, it's like moving house, with the exception of checking for cobwebs and faults. I'm positive some people go on holiday to write reviews on TripAdvisor (they do!).

Unpack, coffee, turn on the TV, and take turns to shower, off for tea (or cook it) and then to see some shows. That's generally how the first night goes, unless you stay in.

Developments!

A little birdy (CL, so not really a bird) told me that there's some changes in the back for Skegness and Minehead!

But that's not all; Butlins:TheStore will spring in to the scene at Skegness too! (Any hints why we called our blog Butlins:TheBlog?). We've not got a confirmed date of when all of this will happen yet, but you heard it first at Butlins:TheBlog!

Last, but not least (unless you're an avid Skegness fan like me), Minehead is getting a new fair... That seems "fair" after Bognor's hotels and Skegness' Splash!

Skegness is the most deprived Seaside town in England.

Oh dear! The Daily Telegraph has made an article about Skegness, and it does nothing but slate it. How very rude!!!!

Skegness, and Ingoldmells (where Butlins is) has been listed as England's most deprived seaside town. We strongly disagree.

As the article starts by saying, Skegness is the home of the first Butlins Holiday Camp (yes, a mention), which is why the area shouldn't be listed as the most deprived! They mustn't have visited the resort, because we all know its certainly not deprived, because all places that have just had a multi-million pound swimming pool project are deprived, right? Well not really. These newspapers are always making Butlins and the areas around them seem something they're not!

Read the first few lines, it mentions Butlins.

The hole in Skegness resort.

Skegness resort will honestly never be the same again. Deano is a legend, possibly the best redcoat ever. It's like there will be a hole in the resort, something missing, and that will be Deano. When anyone metions Redcoats, Deano always comes in to it, that's just how much everyone likes him. November will see the end of an era practically because the resort will simply be different. It's safe to say, Sir Billy would be proud, and there's no bigger compliment than that.

Energy drinks at Butlins

It is Butlins policy not to sell energy drinks to people who are under the age of 25. 

They support Challenge 25. "If you're lucky enough to look under 25, you will be asked to prove your age". We looked in to this after a guest, 22, was asked for ID to buy energy drinks at Butlins, Skegness, in July. "I was "ideed" to buy two energy drinks." They said. They were quite shocked by this, as the guest had never been asked for ID before, when buying energy drinks. "It's not alcohol, so I don't see the problem", The guest added.

We thought other resorts within the Bourne Leisure umbrella may enforce this policy... So we asked Haven Holidays, and a member of their Social Media team told us, "Haven do not sell energy drinks to under 16's" This means it clearly isn't the same.

These drinks are classed as stimulants, and many adults object to children, or young people drinking them. They are loaded with caffeine, sugar, and empty calories. 

Haven and Butlins do not sell them to people under the specified ages respectively for the safety of children. The drinks can harm them in many ways. It is important that children do not consume energy drinks. We are starting a petition to get them made illegal to under 18, and for them to be in plain packaging.

At just under and hour, this spectacular circus is a real good old Butlins entertainment. You know what that's like! You'll have a jolly old laugh, and, tickets are just £5pp! How good is that!

Butlins Minehead changes.

It's no news that Minehead resort is getting new accommodation, but the thing that is annoying, and perhaps not needed is the fuss about why. Bourne Leisure is free to do what they like with Butlins, and, with any investment, there will be people who agree, and those who don't.

The above photo is an artists impression of the new development at Butlins Resort Minehead. This will bring yet another high - quality accommodation choice to Butlins. Replacing 169 inadequate chalets, these "lodges" will be a great addition to the resort, making it even better. The planning document can be found here. Locals were also informed at an information evening in April.

At Butlins:TheBlog, we realise social media is the way the world is working. We've appointed Jake Todhunter as PR Manager for the blog. Yes, thats me, JK. So, as well as posting your favourite content, I'll be creating a suitable image for the blog, in years to come. We want to stand out, as something different. Not being a Butlins Ambassador is an obvious disadvantage, considering all we blog about is Butlins, so thats why we need something more. We've got a plan! This will be taking shape throughout 2013, and 2014. We also want to improve our Klout score (48).

There's not too much we can tell you as of yet, but me and CL will still be here with all of your top quality content, from Butlins:TheBlog.

Butlin's is no longer the last resort

This is a review appearing in The Sunday Telegraph. (click to see the original review)
We're told that;  

Cash-strapped Roger Lewis puts aside his middle-class hang-ups to book into Butlin's, the defiantly British holiday camp – and ends up having a ball

 We're not too pleased with this review to be honest. It does indeed have some good points, we clearly acknowledge this, but the stereotyping of Butlins guests is incorrect and rude.

The review starts by telling us Roger's pre conceptions, what he imagines the "camp" to be like. He, of course, is incorrect. "I was apprehensive about Butlin’s. I assumed it would be a concentration camp for "common" people." This is rather offensive to some holiday makers to Butlins. It's a clear misconception of Butlins guests. We believe this is due to old publicity, that really damaged Butlins. Whilst I like watching it, Hi - De - Hi did no good for Butlins. Personally, I think that if anyone said that at Butlins, they should be escorted off the resort (but that's just my opinion). Roger the goes on to say "I was mightily amused by the other guests – 3,000 or so of them, and me the only person without a tattoo. The men were bald and pot-bellied, unshaven and running with sweat. The women were the same, big lasses who, when they got tipsy on the white wine, fell off their plastic shoes. Those who weren’t badly dressed were more or less nudists, and as the temperatures rose they went pink and blotchy and, finally, as red as cardinals." It's unacceptable. People can look how they want, and people of this manner are most certainly not the only people visit Butlins. Royals have visited Butlins. Do they fit into this category? I'd say not. I think Roger Lewis ought to make an apology to all of Butlins guests, and Butlins themselves. His article rips it apart, and portrays a stereotyped image of Butlins.
